Former 49er Shawntae Spencer is a Raider

Former starting cornerback Shawntae Spencer has now signed a one year deal to join the Oakland Raiders. He will immediately join former Rams CB Bartell as a starter at the corner position. The Raiders have quietly improved their biggest weakness on the team. Reports state that the 49ers are stating that the Oakland Raiders got a steal in Shawntae Spencer as he never lost his starting job in San Francisco. He was actually hampered with a hamstring injury resulting in his fall on the depth chart. Both of these corners bring veteran presence into the Oakland secondary and should immediately add a much needed boost. This will provide second year defensive backs Demarcus Van Dyke and Chimdi Chekwa to develop into future starters.

Raiders strengthening their offensive line

Raiders are looking to improve from the 2011 season and that will need to start up front by shoring up their O-line. The Oakland Raiders now return 3 starters in Stefan Wisniewski, Jared Veldheer, and the newly resigned Cooper Carlisle. The Raiders have recently acquired Mike Brisiel from the Houston Texans. Brisiel was an important factor in helping Steve Slaton become the leading rusher during his rookie campaign, and helped Adrian Foster post a 1600+ yard season last year. It still remains to be heard whether Wisniewski will be moved over to Center with Brisiel starting at Left Guard. The Raiders plan on switching from a man blocking scheme that coach Jackson installed last season to a zone blocking scheme similar to the one that coach Cable ran in 2010.

Michael Huff Will Remain at Safety

According to Jerry Mcdonald-NFL Writer Michael Huff will remain at Free safety for the upcoming 2012 NFL Season. The Raiders have been recently trying to shore up their struggling secondary after it was their main weakness in 2011. This was apparent after Phillip Rivers torched the Oakland secondary several times targeting Lito Shepperd mainly during their week 17 contest. Michael Huff is a proven veteran who has had some clutch moments and will team up with Tyvon Branch as the starting safeties for this Oakland Raider secondary.

Postgame Thoughts after Game 1

Welcome to DESNG. This is my new sports blog that I am starting up and check back often to debate about the biggest topics in sports. I am going to be updating it frequently from now on so make sure to bookmark it and follow it.

The Los Angeles Lakers are building a lead of 20 points with 8:37 left in the 4th quarter as I write this. After watching tonight's game I feel like the Lakers are wearing down the Suns. They are wearing them down with their rotation which is having a huge toll on the Phoenix Suns. The triangle Offense has been terrific tonight. Team Defense has been excellent for the Lakers and are wearing down the Suns for almost 48 minutes. I will give some credit to the Suns though. They fought strong early on but the Lakers took the lead and haven't looked back all night long.

My question is, does Phoenix bounce back in this series??? Or will the Lakers control the series from here on out. What are your thoughts? How do you stop Odom and Gasol after they have played tonight. That was the main question for the Suns. How do you contend against the Lakers big men.

In order for Phoenix to stay in this series, I believe that Steve Nash will have to step up in every aspect of his game. He needs to be a bigger threat offensively.

Your thoughts???
My opinion. Los Angeles Lakers in 5

Will Donovan Mcnabb make the Oakland Raiders a contender?

The Eagles have set the price of Mcnabb. They are asking for at worst the 42nd selection in this years upcoming draft. In my opinion I don't see why Al Davis isn't pulling the trigger. Their history shows that they havn't been successful at drafting. Oakland only seem to strike gold with a few of our picks. I am pretty sure that whoever they draft this year with that 2nd pick won't have the same impact overall that Donovan will have on the Raiders.

If Donovan is a Raider, I believe that the Raiders will be able to contend in the AFC west next year. They split the series with the Chiefs and the Broncos while losing both times to the Chargers. If you notice those two games against the Chargers were both one possession games. With Mcnabb, Oakland's offense will be a threat to score every time they hit the field. Oakland will finally be able to see what a legit Quarterback can do with their current offense. If Mcnabb can be a threat to score every time he gets the ball, I believe that the Raiders can win this division next year. If they win the division, they are guaranteed a playoff spot, something that the Raiders haven't done since 2002. Donovan has never been on a running team. Tom Cable knows how to run the ball. This will take pressure off of Donovan and will make the other teams have to play against both the run and the pass. Oakland need a QB that can get the ball to Schillens, Murphy, and an improving DHB. I believe Mcnabb will be the guy to do that. He is entering his final year of his contract but then Al Davis can always franchise him the following season to have him for at least two years. If the Raiders can win the division and go to the playoffs I believe that we will be able to convince him to stay. No Donovan Mcnabb isn't the answer for the long term since he is aging, but I believe he can help the Raiders now and groom our QB for the future.

Many of you say the Raiders shouldn't give up that 2nd round pick because they have to build through the draft. If we use our 1st round pick on an offensive linemen that is NFL ready, then their line will almost be good to go. Oakland can pick up a few other linemen later in the draft and maybe even a QB to learn under Mcnabb.

Besides does the Raider Nation want to beat the 49ers this upcoming season? I believe that with Mcnabb the Raiders stand a pretty good chance at beating them.
